JAMMU, Nov 10: Inter-collegiate competitions, organised by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education of University of Jammu (JU) in various disciplines including Cross Country, Boxing, Fencing and Handball for Men and Women-2020-21, commenced at University Campus, here today.
Prof Manoj Kumar Dhar, Vice Chancellor University of Jammu was the chief guest of the event who flagged off the races in the presence of Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director Sports and Physical Education, Physical Directors of various Colleges, officials, guests and staff of the directorate.
In his address, the chief guest congratulated the participants for mass participation in the said events which was organized by a gap of one academic session due to COVID-19 pandemic and lauded the efforts of the Directorate for organizing various sports and adventure activities during the pandemic.
The welcome address was presented by Director Dr Daud Iqbal Baba who highlighted the various activities organized by the Directorate during the COVID-19 pandemic to engage the students of the varsity as well as colleges. The proceedings of the function were conducted by Dr Komal Nagar, In-charge Assistant Director.
In Cross Country (men), Mohd Mahir of GDC Poonch, Parvaiz Musharif of GDC Rajouri and Sachin Sharma of GDC Ramnagar clinched top three medals respectively, while in women category, Shamshad Banoo of GDC Paloura, Palvi Thakur & Mamta Sharma of GDC Kathua secured top three medals respectively.
In Fencing (foil), GDC Reasi’s Anshika Bandral, Vanshika Bandral, Roshi Sharma & Shreiya Kumari won gold medals, while Diksha, Jaspreet Kaur, Shaheen Akhter & Rashika Handa of PG Department JU secured silver medals and Mansi Spolia, Isha Thakur, Sofia Mehra and Suman Kumari of GCW Parade won bronze medals, besides Nikita Sharma, Rupalika Sharma, Sheetal Dogra & Sonika Chaudhary from GDC Samba also clinched bronze medals.
In (epee), gold medals were won by Aditika Salmat, Vanshika Bandral, Reya Manhas & Simran Rajput of GDC Reasi, whereas Suhani Jamwal, Shruti Khanna, Isha Thakur & Mansi Spolia of GCW Parade secured silver medals and bronze medals were secured by GDC Samba’s Sheetal Dogra, Krishna Sharma, Sonika Chaudhary & Nikita Sharma, besides Awantika Kumari, Riya Devi, Muskaan Talia & Vishali Devi of GDC Paloura (Mishriwala) also won bronze medals.
In Handball (men), GDC Udhampur beat GDC Kathua by 19-13, while GDC Poonch trounced GCET Jammu by 13-7 & PG Department JU defeated GDC Marh by 9-1, whereas in women category, GCW Parade got better of GDC Akhnoor by 7-2. The matches were officiated by the technical panel of experts including Sudesh Kumar, Vinay Sharma, Karun Magotra, Vipen Photra, Gourav Sharma and Priya Devi.
In boxing (48-51 kg), Vishal Sharma (GDC Kathua) trounced Tayoub Hussain (GDC Paloura), Deepak Kumar (GDC Samba) drubbed Ravinder Kumar (GDC R.S Pura) & Ankit Saini (Bhargava Degree College) beat Mohd Aquab (GDC Poonch), whereas in 51-54 kg, Aryan Sharma (GDC Udhampur) defeated Tushar Bhardwaj (GDC Rajouri) & Mohd Izmam (GDC Poonch) beat Daler Singh (GDC Jindrah) and in 54-57 kg, Ankit (GDC Samba) defeated Mohit Sharma (GDC Paloura), Ankush (GDC Udhampur) got better of Sourav Sharma (GDC Akhnoor), Sahil Lalotra (GDC Kathua) trounced Ajay Sharma (GDC Katra), Nitin Singh (GDC Rajouri) defeated Himanshu Khajuria (GDC Marh), Kunal Sharma (MIET) beat Arjun Sharma (GDC Khour) and Ankush (GDC Udhampur) defeated Ankit (GDC Samba), besides in 57-60 kg, Aman Bhau (GDC Marh) beat Sadiq (GDC Jindrah), Shoaib Akhtar (GDC Poonch) trounced Arun Sharma (GDC Paloura), Aman Sharma (GDC Udhampur) defeated Amandeep Malhotra (GDC Khour), Harsh Sharma (GDC Akhnoor) drubbed Aryan Verma (GDC Kunjwani) and Dheeraj Partap (GDC Samba) beat Onyx Bhadwal (GDC Kathua).
In 60-63.5 kg, Rohit (GDC RS Pura) beat Anikesh Jamwal (GDC Vijaypur), while in 63.5 to 67 kg, Sahil Ali (GDC Kathua) got better of Rikhil (Bhaskar Degree College) and in 67-71 kg, Yariv Majid (GDC Poonch) trounced Vishal Sharma (GDC RS Pura), whereas in Syed Anwar (GDC Kunjwani) beats Samar Singh (GDC Udhampur), Brigu Gupta (MIET) defeated Nitish Kumar (GDC Paloura) and Narinder Singh (GDC Chenani) beat Mandeep Singh (GDC Samba).
The bouts were officiated by Sandeep Singh Chib, Hardesh Singh, Anshuman Khajuria, Goutam Sharma, Gagan Kumar, Harinderpal Singh and Inder Singh.
