9th State Baseball Championship gets underway

SRINAGAR, Nov 9: Principal Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Prof (Dr.) Mohammad Aslam Baba inaugurated 9th State Level Baseball Championship for boys and girls here today.
The Championship is being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Baseball Association under the auspices of Amateur Baseball Federation of India and sponsored by Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council.
The Championship will witness the sparkling baseball talent of 20 teams in boys and 12 girls teams from across the State in open age category.
Teams including Higher educational institutions like Kashmir University are also participating in the Championship which will conclude on November 13, 2014.
Speaking on the inaugural ceremony, the chief guest Prof. Mohammad Aslam Baba described the need of physical education for the proper physical and mental development of a human body. Prof. Baba urged upon the participants to perform to the best of their potential and lay a solid foundation for their bright future.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Prof. Nisar Ahmad Rather, HoD Mathematics and Chairman Kashmir University Sports Board, Director Physical Education Department ICSC, Altaf-ur-Rehman an secretary District Baseball Association Ganderbal, Rouf Ahmad Sofi.
General secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Baseball Association, Fida Hussain Fidvi expressed joy for taking baseball to attain popularity in the State and urged to work hard to make this game familiar to each and every sportsman of the State, adding that his Association is keen to see youth of J&K showing their skills to make a remarkable future in baseball on national and international level.
