JAMMU, Mar 2: 9 battalion BSF (The Nidar Nine) deployed on Indo-Pak border in Samba sector which witnessed heavy shelling and firing across the border by Pakistan in recent past, in a unique initiative organized “Samba Border Inter Village Kabaddi Tournament 2015-16”, which concluded today.
A total of 8 teams of bordering villages under Rajpura and Samba block participated in the tournament which was inaugurated by Arvind Ghildiyal, Commandant 9 Bn BSF, Samba.
The final match was played today in presence of DC Samba, Sheetal Nanda and senior officer of BSF, Police and district administration, besides large number of people of this sensitive and volatile border area. S
peaking on the occasion, DC Samba and Arvind Ghildiyal, Commandant 9 BN BSF informed that the tournament is being conducted under “Civic Action Programme 2015-16” of 9 BN BSF and the primary aim is to instill a sense of security among border population of area and to give them a cause for celebration as the people have been victim of shelling and hostile firing by Pakistan every now and then which has deeply affected their daily lives in this harvesting season.
The tournament also provided platform to the talented youth of this sensitive border belt to exhibit their sporting skills before vide audience. The keenly contested final match of Kabaddi between teams of Village Regal and Village Sadwal was won by Sadwal team by 78-49. Ashu Sharma was declared as player of the Tournament.
During the event, 9 Bn BSF also distributed computers and book/stationary items to Govt. High school, Chaksadda in this border belt of Samba District.
Finally, Sheetal Nanda and BSF Officers distributed trophies and other prizes among the winners and runners-up teams.
