*GDC Paloura, PG Law & Science sail into next stage in Cricket

JAMMU, Oct 4: Inter-Collegiate Championships in the discipline of Volleyball, Kabaddi and Cricket, being organized by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, was held here today.
In Inter-Collegiate Volleyball Championship for women, GWC Parade, GDC Samba, GDC Ramnagar, PG Department, Udhampur and GCW Gandhi Nagar sailed into the quarterfinal round.
Earlier in the pre-quarters, GWC Parade beat GDC Poonch by 2-0, GDC Samba smashed GDC Kathua by 2-0, GDC Ramnagar, PG Department, GWC Udhampur and GCW Gandhi Nagar got walkover against SPMR College of Commerce, GDC Udhampur, GDC Paloura and College of Education respectively.
Prominent among who were present there are Dr Sarabjeet Kour, Suman Lata, Sudhesh Kumar Dr Shamim Banday, Rakesh Kumar, Vinay Manhas and Jasleen Kaur.
The matches were officiated by Amit Sharma, Ramesh S Jasrotia, Mulk Raj Khajuria, Bneet Sharma, Rohani Devi, Bhavana Sharma and Priya Choudhary.
In Inter-Collegiate Kabaddi Championship for women, GCW Gandhi Nagar crushed GDC Ramnagar by 20 points, GDC Kathua thrashed PG Department by 6 points and Udhampur registered win over GCW Kathua by 12 points.
The matches were officiated by Ajay Gupta, Anil Sharma, Rakesh Kumar, Ankush Chib, Ankush Gupta, Vishal Jamwal, Keshav Singh, Amandeep Singh, Harpreet Singh and Raki Singh.
Meanwhile, in Inter-Collegiate Cricket Championship for men, GDC Paloura and PG Law and Science outplayed rivals in their respective matches and entered into the next stage.
In the first match, GDC Paloura registered 10 runs win over GDC Udhampur in a nail biting match.
Batting first, GDC Paloura scored 112 runs by losing all wickets in 20 overs. Mohammad Saleem was the top scorer with 25 runs, while Surinder and Sajjad Ahmed scored 18 and 17 runs respectively.
From GDC Udhampur side, Abneet Kumar clinched 3 wickets, while Vinod Kumar, Rajat Singh, Vikas Bhat and Deepak Kotwal took one wicket each.
In reply, GDC Udhampur failed to chase the target and bundled out at 102 runs by losing all wickets in 19.2 overs. Vikas Bhar and Adif Nazir scored 22 and 21 runs respectively.
From GDC Paloura side, Surinder was the pick of the bowler, who scalped 5 wickets, while Aman Sharma took 2 wickets. Mohammad Saleem and Sajjad also took one wicket each.
In the second match, PG Law and Science defeated GDC Billawar by 53 runs. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, PG Law and Science made 156 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Naman Bhardwaj played a splendid inning of 61 runs, while Somya Jain, Parash Sharma and Pankaj made 28, 22 and 16 runs respectively.
From GDC Billawar side, Sandesh and Yuvraj scalped 2 wickets each, while Sourav and Karan took one wicket each.
In the second inning, GDC Billawar collapsed at 103 runs by losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. Rajveer was the top scorer with 40 runs, while Nitin and Sourav made 15 and 10 runs each.
From PG Law and Science side, Paras Sharma was wrecker-in-chief, who scalped 3 wickets, while Khalid, Ajesh and Pankaj took one wicket each.
The matches were officiated by Saleem-ur-Rehman, Udeep Raina, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Jeevanjot Singh, Mohan Lal and Amit Gupta.
The Championships were being organized under the supervision of Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
