KATHUA, June 25: A 28-year-old wrestler, identified as Pardeep alias Sonu Pahalwan son of Prem, tragically died after allegedly suffering a heart attack during a wrestling match in Arnooya village of Dinga Amb, Kathua district.
Originally from Jalandhar, Pardeep had been residing in Kathua for several years and was a well-known figure in local wrestling circles. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening during a traditional Dangal event, when he suddenly collapsed mid-bout. Locals reported that he fell unconscious in the ring, prompting immediate medical attention.
He was rushed to Hiranagar Hospital in critical condition, but unfortunately, doctors were unable to revive him and he was declared dead during treatment. Station House Officer (SHO) Hiranagar, Ashish Sharma, confirmed the incident and said that inquest proceedings have been initiated to determine the exact cause of death. “He was living in Kathua for a long time and the incident happened during the match. We are investigating the matter,” he added.
