SRINAGAR, Sept 30: The Department of Youth Services and Sports, J&K is organizing 59th National School Games in the discipline of Cricket Under-14 boys here from tomorrow.
The six-day mega event will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at Bakshi Stadium, said Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din while addressing media persons, here today.
Taj said the games are part of a series of events to get Kashmir back on the sporting map of the country with the improvement in the security situation.
He said the “big event” will see teams from 21 States of the country participating in 41 matches.
“There will be 27 league and 12 knock-out matches, which will be played at different grounds across the Valley,” he said.
The Department of Youth Services and Sports has included the game as part of the curriculum seeing the desire of youngsters for cricket, the Minister said.
He announced that every district in the State will have a sports academy and every Panchayat will get a sports ground, to provide ample opportunities to the sports lovers.
“The Government is doing its best to improve sports facilities in the state,” Taj said.
The matches will be held at five selected venues including University of Kashmir, NIT Hazratbal, Islamia College, Govt Higher Secondary School, Bijbehara and Government Degree College, Baramulla, while the concluding function is scheduled to be held at Sher-i-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, Sonawar in Srinagar.
Meanwhile, for smooth conduct of the tournament, the Department has constituted various committees to be headed by the officers of the Department. The technical committee is being headed by Neelofar Amin as convener, while the liaison committee will be headed by Hartej Singh as convener.
Dr Swaran Singh Chib is the convener of ceremony committee, Abdul Rehman is heading finance committee, while Mohd Ayaz Khan is the convener of transport committee.
Subash Chander and Tirath Ram are the conveners of reception committee Srinagar and Jammu respectively.
Sarabjeet Singh is heading lodging and boarding committee, while Sunil Kumar is the convener of control room.
Muzzafar Tramboo is the convener of press and publicity committee and Mushtaq Ahmad is the convener of medical committee.
