JAMMU, Mar 22: First Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Memorial State Wrestling Competition will be held on March 24.
This was stated by Choudhary Lal Singh, Minister for Forests and Chairman of the Organizing Committee.
“One hundred budding wrestlers under the age of 17 years are likely to participate in the competition”, he said, adding that wrestlers from Poonch, Rajouri, Kathua, Jammu, Samba, Reasi, Srinagar, Doda, Diwan Mandir Akhada and Choudhary Lal Singh Akhada, Rajbagh Kathua are invited to participate in the competition.
He informed that the competition will be contested in 42 kg, 46 kg, 50 kg, 55 kg, 60 kg, 66 kg and 74 kg weight category, adding that a strong need was felt to organize the competition because of falling standard of wrestling from the last many years.
Cash prizes of Rs 3000, Rs 2000 and Rs 1000 will be given to the first, second and third positions holders, the Minister stated.
He added that the scholarship will also be provided to the talented wrestlers for the period of one year under the scheme of Government of India.
Among others present were Hussain Ali Waffa, senior PDP leader, Rakesh Gupta, President, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Surinder Singh Gilly, Raj Hussain, Prem Nath Choudhary, Bodh Raj, Rakesh Khajuria, Raj Kumar Mani, Babishan Singh, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Bansi Lal Tidyal and Mulkh Raj Sharma.
