17th J&K State Sport Climbing C’ship from today

JAMMU, Aug 16: 17th J&K State Sport Climbing Championship will be organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K in collaboration with Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Laxmi Puram, Bantalab Jammu for two days from tomorrow.
About 200 climbers from various districts of the state including Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Samba, Anantnag, Srinagar, Badgam, Ganderbal, Pulwama, Poonch, Rajouri and Doda will vie for the top honors in the two day competition. In case the participation exceeds 200 climbers, preliminary rounds of certain categories for Jammu district will be conducted a day earlier.
The competitions will be held in eight categories of Men, Women (born in 2000,1999 and earlier), Boys, Girls (born in 2001, 2002 & 2003), Sub Jr. Boys / Girls (born in 2004 and 2005) and Mini Boys / Girls (born in 2006 and after).
Except for Mini Boys and Girls who will participate in ‘lead climbing’ only, participants in all other categories shall compete both in ‘lead climbing’ and ‘speed climbing.’
A national judge in sport climbing Mitra Ghosh from Delhi will be the president of the Jury, another technical official from Delhi, Paras Verma, a national Route Setter also from Delhi will be the Chief Route Setter of the competition. Other technical and logistic support will be provided by Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee, New Delhi. The championship is being sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
