JAMMU, Mar 4: Young Rovers and Vijay Club outplayed their opponent teams in their respective matches and sailed into the next round of the ongoing 3rd Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup Football Tournament being organized by All J&K Indira Gandhi People’s Association in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) and J&K Sports Council at Government Gandhi Memorial (GGM) Science College football ground here today.
In the first match of the day, Young Rovers registered 3-1 victory over its opponent team Mussa Club.
In the first half, Varun Sharma of Young Rovers netted the first goal of the match in the 10th minute, while the second goal was scored by Avinash in the 34th minute.
The players of Mussa Club were trying to make passage for the goal, but failed in front of the footwork of the enthusiastic Young Rovers players.
During first half, the yellow cards were shown to Ali Khan in the very first minute and Sahil Choudhary in the 27th minute. Both the players were playing for Young Rovers team.
In the second half, Honey of Mussa Club netted the goal in the 59th minute and brought some respite from the rising pressure on the team.
The happiest movement of Mussa Club turned out to be fatal, when Avinash again trounced back and netted the goal in the 61st minute and brought the score to 3-1 goals.
After the third goal from Young Rovers side in the 61st minute, the players of Mussa Club tried their level best to clinch the match, but lost enthusiasm in the last minutes of the game and thus lost the match by 3-1 goals.
In the second match, Vijay Club routed Sainik Colony by straight two goals to zero (2-0).
The first goal of the match was scored by 5th minute of the first half, while Tanpreet Singh Bagga raised the pressure level of the players of Sainik Colony by scoring another goal in the 22nd minute.
After 22nd minute of the match, the players of Sainik Colony played with an attacking spirit, but the players of Vijay Club, who were looking passionate and enthusiastic, shattered their all the dreams of clinching the match and registered 2-0 victory and also advanced to the next round of the tournament.
The matches were officiated by Hilal Ahmed, Suresh Gupta, Sohan Kumar, Kushey Kumar, Moon Stephen, Koushal Kumar, Vijay Kumar and Gagan Kumar.
In tomorrow’s fixture, PDC (B) will clash with Jammu United and NGR will lock horns with Jammu Sports.
The tournament is being organized by Narinder Gupta, president, All J&K Indira Gandhi People’s Association.
