Wrestling holds promise for talented youth: Rana

Jammu, July 6: Provincial President National Conference and MLA Nagrota Devender Singh Rana today appreciated the keen interest being evinced by youngsters in traditional wrestling known in common parlance as Dangal, saying the thrilling sport has gained impetus after making waves at the international level.
“Wrestling has attained amazing and encouraging propositions over the years and the events being held across the Nagrota constituency are inspiring youth to take to the sport in large numbers”, Mr Rana said while speaking at prize giving function at Saya Village of Jagti area in Nagrota Assembly Constituency after the thrilling competition, witnessed by a large number of people from peripheries.
Benia of J&K Police was crowned the champion of the keen contest by defeating Amritpal from Amritsar who was declared as runnerup.
The Provincial President envisioned a great future for the sport, given the enthusiasm among the youth, notwithstanding the challenges being posed by several other popular sports. He said wrestling has its huge and specific fan following with lovers of the game passionately waiting for such events to take place at frequent intervals. He assured full support to organizers in holding such competitions and exuded confidence that the local youth will actively participate in wrestling.
Prominent among those present at the event included Ch Rehmat Ali, Thoru Ram, Asa Ram, Rashid Malik, Madan Shah, Puran Chand Numberdar, Natti, Samant Singh, Abdul Gani, Dr Manzoor, Surinder Singh, Liaqat Ali, Noor Shah, Noori, Mohammad Rafiq, Bashir Ahmed, Rashid Malik, Wali Mohammad, Mahinder Singh and others.
