Overloading in Mendhar
This is to draw the attention of the Mendhar town (Rajouri) administration that the menace of matador overloading is assuming an alarming dimension here. The matadors coming to Mendhar town or going to outskirts from this town remain overcrowded with passengers. Finding no space inside the matador, people use matador roofs for their onward journey. This is not only dangerous for the safety of passengers themselves but to others as well. It has been found that overloading is one of the big causes of road accidents in Jammu and Kashmir.
The traffic authorities need to intervene in the matter by discouraging people not to travel in overcrowded matadors, and by punishing drivers and their owners. Besides, it is suggested that more matadors or JKSRTC buses be pressed into service to overcome traffic problem and overloading.
It is expected that the authorities would look into the issue.

Repair Janipur road
The road stretch near Janipur Sabzi Mandi has got damaged during recent rains. Numerous puddles have surfaced at this portion. As a result, traffic movement gets badly affected here causing great inconvenience to commuters. The presence of stray animal further adds to agony of commuters and pedestrians. Before the situation may worsen here further, it is suggested that this road stretch be repaired and blacktopped. Hope the authorities may look into this issue.

Awareness programme for road safety
With an aim to encourage road safety practices among people in general and drivers/conductors in particular, conducting awareness programmes by the RTO Jammu, deserves appreciation (DE Jan 12 refers). Innumerable deaths of those who were to live long life, are made to rest for ever, is indeed heartbreaking. The injured also suffer disabilities throughout the life.
Need for road safety measures can’t be exaggerated. Untimely and sudden death due to road accidents cause unfathomable bereavement to the families concerned.
All efforts and endeavours to curb such gross negligence either on the part of the drivers’ community or the traffic agencies to ensure no such happenings take place, are considered inadequate.
Overloading and rash driving are fundamental causes for such miseries.
Values like humanity and sympathy for the mankind also needs to be inculcated among the drivers community to mitigate chances of blood stains on roads.
Its quite heartening that consolation in the shape of compensation is given by the Govt, but who can compensate the invaluability of life, is a matter to be realized. Though death is an inevitable phenomena, but untimely deaths cause irreparable losses. Strict vigilance to check the erring drivers is necessary to ensure no carelessness is exercised. Regardless to say that implementation of traffic rules only can minimise the graph of accidents. The traffic authorities are requested to ensure that those violating the rules are punished in accordance with the nature of violation.
