JAMMU, Dec 26: Jammu and Kashmir Wushu Association organised an impressive, well attended and colourful welcome ceremony at Police Auditorium, Gulshan Ground of 28th Senior National Wushu Championship to commence from tomorrow at new Indoor Sports Complex, MA Stadium, here.
Around 1300 Wushu players drawn from 42 teams across the country will take part in the Championship.
SK Sharma, Assistant Commissioner Income Tax was the chief guest on the occasion, while Amarjeet Singh, DC Excise Department, Anil Chandan, ETO Excise Department, Nipun Tickoo, ETO Excise Department and Sohail Ahmed, General Secretary Wushu Association of India were the guests of honour.
Earlier, Vijay Saraf along with Kuldeep Handoo, Chief Wushu Coach of India welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries with bouquets.
Wushu demonstration was followed by a variety of cultural items presented by the students which included Dogri and Kashmiri dances besides a skit, which enthralled the audience.
Speaking on the occasion, SK Sharma and Amarjeet Singh lauded the organisers for taking initiative of holding this Wushu extravaganza and threw light on the significance of sports and games.
They said sports apart from helping youth to be physically fit, also help them not to derail from the mainstream, adding that sportspersons hardly fall prey to drugs and other social evils.
