GUWAHATI, Nov 28: A new history was written here this evening when the first ever actor of the State of Jammu and Kashmir Vikrant Sharma was conferred this year’s National Bismillah Khan Yuva Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in the field of Acting this evening at Shri Shankra Auditorium, here.
The award was conferred by the Governor of Assam Jagdish Mukhi who was joined by the Chairman Sangeet Natak Akademi Dr Shekhar Sen.
An accomplished actor of Natrang Jammu has become the first actor of the J&K state who has been honoured with this National recognition in the post-India independence period.
Born in 1978 to GC Sharma and Satya Sharma, Vikrant started his humble journey in the year 1990 as a child artist in the play ‘Mere Hisse Ki Dhoop Kahan Hai’ written and directed by Balwant Thakur. Since then he has been working actively with Natrang Theatre group as an actor & trainer. The entire world knows him for his mind-blowing lead role in the Dogri play ‘Ghumayee’ as hero which vibrated the world for his most outstanding performance. His memorable performances in ‘Ghumayee’ got standing ovation Internationally in Russia and Germany.
In last 27 years he acted in more than 70 plays prominently amongst them included Ghumayee, Bhaag Beta Bhaag, Ek Tha Gadha urf Alladad Khan,Bawa Jitto, Aap Hamare Hain Kaun, Kanjoos, Fandi, Comedy of Terrors, Mere Hisse Ki Dhoop Kahan Hai, Mahabhoj, Holi, Bagia Banchha Ram ki, Lekhak, Suno Eh Kahani, Charan Das Chor etc. which count more than 1000 performances throughout India and abroad.
He has participated in more than 80 National Theatre festivals organized by the prestigious organizations. He started RJing in 2007 with 92.7 BIG FM Jalandhar station and secured the Top position in the competition market, used to host show for the region and have performed in all the Time Bands as RJ, besides working as Programming Head Jammu since 2010.
He has played over 20 National Basketball Champio-nships representing J&K including Inter Universities.
Also acted in few Bollywood Movies namely Apharan and Utthaan, besides working with renowned Bollywood Directors like Prakash Jha, Ujjawal Chaterjee and Parvati Balagoplan.
