JAMMU, Nov 20: After League Champion NGR, Vijay Football Club thrashed Churchill Brothers and claimed the runner-up trophy of the Senior Division League Football Tournament (2011-12) organised by Jammu Kashmir Football Association (JKFA), Jammu Wing, at Government Gandhi Memorial (GGM) Science College Football ground, here today.
During the match, Rahul Sabarwal of Churchill Brothers netted the first goal in the 2nd minute of the first half, which, passionate Vishal Dogra of Vijay Club equalized in the 30th minute.
In 39th minute of the first half, Rohit Sandhu of Churchill Brothers pelted another goal, brought the opponent team under extreme pressure and the first half ended with a score of 2-1 goals.
In the second half, Vishal Dogra of Vijay Club trounced back with his powerful footwork and smashed the equalizer goal in the 50th minute, bringing some relief for his team from the rising pressure.
Mohit Verma of Vijay Club netted the goal in the 70th minute and just after eight minutes, Tanpreet Singh of Vijay Club finding a passage chipped in another goal and shifted the team pressure on the shoulders of their opponent team Churchill Brothers.
After 78th minute, players of Churchill Brothers were looking dominated and thus lost the match by 4-2 goals.
The match was officiated by Koushal Sharma, Vijay Kumar, Harneel Singh and Pawan Kumar.
On the valedictory function, MLC Vijay Bakaya was the chief guest, who handed over the runner-up trophy to the Vijay Club team members and also second runner-up trophy to Churchill Brothers in presence of RK Kohli, Treasurer, Jammu Kashmir Football Association (JKFA), Jammu Wing, Dr Nirmolak Singh, Ramesh Chander, Surinder Singh Bunty, Resident Secretary, JKFA, Jammu Wing, Mohan Lal, Feastus Sotra, David Burrat, local populace and sports lovers.
While speaking, MLC Vijay Bakaya, appreciated the efforts of the JKFA for their efforts in popularizing the football game in the Jammu region and giving a platform to the footballers to exhibit their hidden talent.
Bakaya impressed upon the gathering to participate in sports activities to keep their body mentally and physically fit.
