Veer Smriti Yatra flagged off

NOWSHERA (Rajouri), June 8: Veer Smriti Yatra- a bike rally, organised by Army, commenced at Shaheedgarh War Memorial at Qila Darhal, Lam Nowshera, here today.
The ‘Veer Smriti Yatra’ is being organised to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of White Knight Corps by Nagrota based Corps which will traverse more than 600 kilometres in six days to pay homage to gallant soldiers who gave supreme sacrifices in the service of the nation.
The White Knight Riders comprising nine Army personnel and six civilians commenced their journey today from Qila Darhal which was flagged off by Brigadier Ajay Sharma along with the local veterans Bachatar Singh and Bal Sainik Sardar Basant Singh.
The rally will visit all the War Memorial South of Pir Panjal and during the en-route, the riders will meet with all the veterans and veer naris with a motive to remember the brave hearts, to rekindle and invigorate spirit of patriotism amongst locals by reviving the tales of valour.
“The areas of Poonch, Rajouri and Nowshera had seen tremendous civilian participation in 1947-48 war when Pakistani raiders had attacked Jammu and Kashmir,” said an organiser, adding that this bike rally also aims to enhance the bonhomie between the locals and the security forces which will be flagged in on June 13 by the Lieutenant Governor at Nagrota.
