JAMMU, Mar 13: Three days 17th State Athletics Championship concluded at University ground, here today.
About 350 athletes drawn from the districts of Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Anantnag, Baramula, Srinagar and Reasi took part in the Championship.
Jammu and Kashmir Police athletes while taking part in all the events dominated in the Championship.
The medals, mementos and certificates were distributed by the chief guest Danesh Rana, Inspector General of Police in the presence of Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation, Dushyant Sharma, President J&K Olympic Association and Tejinder Singh, SSP Jammu.
Prominent among other dignitaries present on the occasion were Prof Ashutosh Sharma, Chief Patron and General Secretary J&K Olympic Association; Suneel Mahajan, President J&K Athletics Association,. Sharat Chander Singh, General Secretary J&K Athletics Association, S. Ravinder Singh, Secretary J&K Gymnastic Association, S. Harbhajan Singh, President J&K Weightlifting Association, Yudhvir Singh, Rajan Sharma, General Secretary J&K Boxing Association, S. Sarwant Singh Gill Secretary J&K Cycling Association, Ajay Sharma, Treasurer J&K Athletic Association, Vikas Gupta, Secretary J&K Judo Association, Vinod Bhatia Secretary J&K Yoga Association, PD Singh, Jai Bharat, Chamail Singh, Nirmolak Singh, Sarabjit Singh, Tarsem Sharma, Ravinder Singh and Romesh Sharma.
Earlier, Prof Ashutosh threw light on the activities and achievements of J&K Athletics Association.
Speaking on the occasion, Danesh Rana lauded the efforts of the organisers for providing opportunity to the athletes to showcase their skill to be ready for the big events.
In 100 Meter sprint, Vasu Sapolia of Reasi clinched gold, while Ankit Sharmaof JKP bagged silver and Danish Yousuf again of JKP claimed bronze.
In Shot Put Men’s Open Category, Manpreet Singh (Jammu) won gold, Jasbir Singh (JKP) bagged silver and Rakshvardhan Singh (Kathua) claimed bronze.
In Long Jump Men’s Open Category, Jai Kumar (JKP) clinched gold, Zubair Ahmed (JKP) bagged silver and Rajan Sharma claimed bronze.
In High Jump, Ayushman Singh, Sanjeev Sharma and Tarvinder Pal Singh won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively, while in Discus Throw, Manpreet Singh, Zubair Ahmedand Chandan Singh won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
In Javelin Throw, Jugraj Singh bagged gold, Chandan Singh won silver and Manjeet Kotwal claimed bronze.
In 10,000 Meters, Hans Raj, Mangat Singh and Susheel Kumar claimed gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
In 1500 Meters, Vinod Kumar, Mukesh Kumar and Amit Razra clinched gold, silver and bronze respectively, while in 800 Meters, Abhinav Kundal won gold, Vinod Kumar bagged silver and Ishtiaq Ismail claimed bronze.
In 400 Meters, Abhinav Kundal, Kewal Singh and Faisal Rashid won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
