UT level Chess C’ship commences at PCJ

JAMMU, Jan 3: UT level Chess Championship, being organized by All J&K Chess Association, commenced at Press Club Jammu (PCJ), here today.
The players selected from various district as well as divisional level tournaments are taking part in this event.
Divisional Sports Officer Jammu, Ashok Singh was chief guest on the occasion. He wished good luck to all the participants of the events, which are being held in various categories including both senior men, senior women and under-19 open as well.
Earlier, a players meeting was held under the chairmanship of president of AJKCA, Atul Kumar Gupta and a tournament committee was formed to conduct the event smoothly.
FIDE Arbiter Anil Kotwal was appointed as chief arbiter for this event, while AR Wani, Mushtaq Ahmed Malik and Burhan Wani are arbiters as well as technical experts for the event.
Arshid Ahmad Kolu, secretary AJKCA, Khalid Amin, Baldev Raj, Kuljeet Singh Jamwal, Raj Kumar and Faisal Farooq were present during the event.
All the matches are conducted in the Swiss system by Swiss software as per latest international rules.
Surprise of the event was Mahesh Rustogi, Principal Commissioner GST’s performance in the event. Despite his ultra busy schedule he is leading the event jointly with SP Sharma, Soham Kamotra, Sumit Grover , Khalid Amin and Ajit Singh by scoring 2/2 points.
A total of seven rounds will be played in this event and the final will be played on January 5.
