SRINAGAR, Sept 28: The 3rd UT level Carrom Championship started at Sports Hall, Indoor Stadium, Polo Ground, here today.
The championship was declared open by Zeeshan Khan (Assistant Director Tourism Kashmir), in presence of Adil Rashid Shah (General Secretary), Arif Sultan Secretary, Dawar Rashid, member of the J&K Carrom Association, Adfar Jan, organising secretary of the championship and other officials of the Association.
Adfar Jan welcomed all the participants and officials of this championship wished them best of luck and asked all the participants to take part in these kinds of events. She said that they had received around 240 entries from all over the Jammu & Kashmir and around 98 matches were played on the inaugural day of this championship.
The competitions of cadet, sub junior, junior and senior categories in both boys and girls and men and women section were held.
In senior men, Nasir Khan defeated Wahid Lone, Nazim Fayaz beat Nadeem Shafi, Haroon Parray trounced Athar Shakeel, Danish Shafi defeated Abbas Ali, and Rameez Ahmad beat Fardeen, whereas in women senior, Qazima Khursheed defeated Tousia Altaf, Munazah Hussain trounced Tabish Ashraf and Sumera Jan defeated Ulfat, while Anzalna Rafiq defeated Razia Riyaz.
In junior boys, Abid Hilal defeated Uzair, Naseer beat Bazil, Zaid trounced Haroon and Numan Shabir got better of Zahid Manzoor, wherein in junior girls, Muntazir defeated Adfar Jan, Sumaira Jan beat Saqiba Javid and Insha Hameed defeated Rabia.
