Uplona Rashtriya Rifles Hockey Tourney concludes

BARAMULLA, Dec 18: Uplona Hockey Tournament, organised by Rashtriya Rifle at Singhpora Sports Ground, culminated, here today.
The final match was played between Singhpora Sports Club-A and Jagjit Club Uplona wherein Jagjit Club Uplona won the match by 2-1 goals.
Both the teams displayed outstanding skills, sportsmanship and camaraderie. The match was well contested and it also enthralled the audience till the end. The tournament was played on round robin format in the league stages in which two pools with three teams each played to qualify for the semi-finals.
The winner and runner up teams were awarded at the end of the tournament with individual medals, team trophies and hockey kits. Master Hardeep Singh of Jagjit Club Uplona was also awarded with the player of the match award, whereas Master Amanpreet Singh was awarded with best Goalkeeper award.
About six teams from the area are participating in the championship. The aim of the tournament was to motivate the youth to take up sports as a profession and to inculcate the values of sportsman spirit. The semi-finals among the top four teams were played on December 16 & 17.
Youth of the area were greatly benefited from this initiative, they appreciated the efforts made by the Indian Army to promote sports at the grassroots level and also requested for more such tournaments to be conducted in the future.
