Union Sports Secretary convenes meet for development of sports in J&K

JAMMU, Aug 11: On behalf of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, Secretary Sports convened a meeting regarding development of sports in the State of Jammu and Kashmir at the Meeting Hall of Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi, yesterday.
According to the reports reaching here, the meeting among others was attended by SK Rao, representative from the Board of Control for Cricket in India and Amrit Mathur, representative from Sports Authority of India, besides Director General Youth Services and Sports, J&K, Jehangir Mir; General Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), M L Nehru; General Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA), Abdul Hameed and representative from J&K Olympic Association, Dr Ashutosh Sharma.
A threadbare discussion with regard to promotion of sports was held on the occasion, wherein the representatives of elite Sports Associations from J&K threw light on the steps being taken for promotion of sports in the State.
All the representatives from the State while assuring full cooperation to Government of India in its initiative towards promoting sports in Jammu and Kashmir, said that the State is striving hard to craft a space on the Country’s Sports Map, adding that various Sports Associations, Army, J&K Police Department and the Government are hosting mega sports events in various sports disciplines from time to in the State.
Meanwhile, talking to EXCELSIOR, Dr Farooq Abdullah, president JKCA said that M L Nehru attended the meeting on his behalf, adding that JKCA is committed to promote cricket and cricketers in the State and assured full cooperation to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt of India.
