SRINAGAR, June 5: Stopping Akber Khan from making it three in a row, Umer Nabi cruised to victory in the 4th JK Bank-Magpie Kashmir Cycling Challenge organized by J&K Sports Development Association (JKSDA) from Duck Park Foreshore Road to Zaberwan Park Boulevard here on Thursday.
Akber Khan of Tramboo Foods who was bidding for third straight title in the event was stopped by Umer Nabi of Khyber Group by cruising to victory ahead of him by fraction of second. It was close battle between the top riders of State with margin of victory separated by only seconds.
The event was flagged off by Director Magpie Hydel and Winter Olympian, Mir Mudasir along with, J&K Sports Development Association (JKSDA) Sr. Vice-President Rauf Tramboo and Ghani Gliders owner Tariq Rashid Ghani. The event was held in two categories of senior boys and Under-17 boys and in it around 233 cyclists turned. The event was sponsored by J&K Bank and co-sponsored by Magpie Hydel Pvt. Ltd.
In senior category, Umer Nabi of Khyber Group finished first with the timing of 18:24:681 while as Akber of Tramboo Foods finished second with the timing of 18:24:824. Muhammad Adil Teli of Chinar Cycling Club finished with the timing of 18:25:203 while as Umer Bashir of Live Strong Club finished fourth with the timing of 18:25:711. Ghulam Rasool Kawa finished fifth with the timing of 18:26:102.
In junior category, Parvaiz Ahmad Gujree of Chinar Club finished first with the timing of 19:17:32 while as Amir Gujree finished second with the timing of 19:18:430. Waheed Ahmad Padroo of Chinar Club finished third with the timing of 20:31:202. Raashid Iqbal of Kashmir Harvard finished fourth with the timing of 20:32:134.
Later the prizes distribution was held at Nun Kun Park in which position holders were awarded.
On the occasion, JKSDA also paid tributes to the cyclist Mufeed Ahmad who had passed away in the road accident earlier this year. The award on his name was also announced for the emerging player which was given by Mufeed’s brother to rookie cyclist Moonis Ismail Wani.
