U/19 cricket trials in full swing in Jammu, Srinagar

JAMMU, Aug 26: Under-19 cricket trials for both men and women for Under-19 Vinoo Mankand Trophy and Women Under-19 One Day Trophy, being organised by Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association is going on full swing at both JKCA’s stadiums in Jammu and Srinagar.
The trials were begun on August 25 at both venues and will terminate on August 27. “Due to overwhelming response of the young cricketers at trials venues, the selectors have been given the option to extend the trials by a day,” said Member Admn JKCA Brig Anil Gupta.
Mithun Manhas, Member JKCA who is personally supervising the trials has revealed that almost 60 girls and 900 boys reported for trials on the first day at both the venues. “To ensure safety of the players, the participants were advised to bring along RT-PCR or RAT report,” said Manhas.
Arun Sharma, chairman of men junior selection committee said that he was thrilled with the response and the josh displayed by the participants during the trials. “On the first day players were allowed to build self-confidence and prepare themselves for their mission. None other than those who did not meet the age criteria have been rejected on the first day,” he added.
“About 38 girls reported for trials at Jammu which is unprecedented,” said Pratibha Wadhera, chairperson of the women junior selection committee and she added that is for the first time girls have come from Batote, Udhampur, Samba, Akhnoor and Kathua for trials.
“We didn’t have expect such huge participation and has surprised all of us.” said Sunil Sethi Member JKCA, adding that apart from huge numbers, what is heartening is that players have turned up from far off and remote places.
