JAMMU, Jan 11: On the occasion of 31st National Road Safety Week, Transport Commissioner J&K, Dr Owais Ahmad inaugurated the 6th Road Safety T20 Cricket Championship in an impressive, well attended and colourful function at Parade Ground, here today.
The chief guest Dr Owais declared the Championship open in the presence of Gurmukh Singh, Joint Transport Commissioner, SSP RK Bhat, Dhananter Singh RTO Jammu, Ravi Raina Additional Secretary Road Safety Council, Mohd Amin Shah Under Secretary Raod Safety Council, Rajesh Gill Chief Prosecuting Officer and former Ranji Trophy Player and Vijay Saberwal President Parade Sports Association.
The slogan of the Championship is “Sadak Suraksha- Jeevan Raksha” and is being organized by Transport Department of UT of Jammu and Kashmir, under the overall supervision of Transport Commissioner Dr Owais Ahmad, while SSP RK Bhat Additional Secretary Road Safety Council and Rajesh Gill are the coordinators of the event.
Speaking on the occasion the chief guest said that the objective for conducting the tournament on the occasion of 31st National Road Safety is to make the youth aware of the rules of the road to avoid accidents.
Earlier, Mr Bhat presented the welcome address, while Mr Gill proposed vote of thanks.
Famous anchor Justina Victor conducted the proceedings of the inaugural function.
In the opening match, KC Sports Club defeated Media XI by 7 wickets.
Batting first, Media XI bundled out for paltry 66 runs in 16.5 overs. Amar was the only batsman to cross the double figure mark scoring 16 runs. From KC Sports Club, Abhinav Khajuria took 4 wickets, Vicky Raina bagged 3 wickets while Sakib and Sahil claimed 1 wicket each.
In reply, KC Sports Club chased the target by losing 3 wickets, thus won the match by 7 wickets. Vikas (35) and Siddarth (16) were the main scorers from KC Sports From Media XI, Akshay, Nitin and Amar claimed 1 wicket each. Abhinav Khajuria was adjudged as the man of the match.
In girls section, Jammu Queens Cricket Club defeated Jammu Angels Cricket Club by 8 wickets
Batting first, Angels CC scored 67 for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 12 overs. Sonika top scored with 25 runs, while Fency contributed 15 runs to the total. From Queens, Phoolkumari, Puja, Rubia and Guddu took 1 wicket each.
In reply Jammu Queens Cricket Club chased the target in 10.3 overs by losing 2 wickets thus won the match by 8 wickets. Rubia was the top scorer with 46 runs, while Lalita contributed 10 runs to the total. From Angels, Shivangi took 2 wickets.
