JAMMU, Feb 12: Stylish Shubham Pundir, gutsy Shubham Khajuria, skipper Parvez Rasool and seasoned all-rounder Ramdayal Punia took Jammu and Kashmir to a respectable total of 340 runs in 87 overs against Haryana despite right-arm leg-break Rahul Tewatia’s 7-wicket haul in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group-C match at GGM Science College Hostel Ground, here today.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Jammu and Kashmir openers Jiyaad Nazir Magrey and Suryansh Raina began the innings in style, hitting a series of boundaries early before Suryansh departed at his individual score of 14 runs and the team’s total of 26 runs in 7.1 overs. Jiyaad (18) was the next man to go in the 15th over at the team’s total of 64 runs. However, a partnership of 66 runs between Shubham Khajuria and Shubham Singh Pundir helped Jammu and Kashmir to reach 130/3 in 30th over, when Khajuria was dismissed for magnificent 62 off 71 balls, studded with 8 fours and 3 sixes.
Shubham Pundir continued his patience and application and found an able partner in his captain Parvez Rasool, making a partnership of 80 runs to take the score to 210/4 in 49.2 overs. Rasool missed the half-century by a whisker, scoring 49 off 54 balls, with the help of 2 fours and 3 sixes. Young Abdul Samad, who has been in fabulous touch throughout the season, was unlucky to be dismissed for naught. The batting trio of Pundir, Khajuria and Rasool hit some awe-inspiring shots in their knocks.
All-rounders Ramdayal and consistent Abid Mushtaq added valuable runs down the order to help J&K reach a good total. Ramdayal scored 43 off 57 balls, with the help of 3 fours and 3 sixes, while Abid contributed unbeaten 29 off 27 balls, studded with 4 fours and 1 six. Wicketkeeper batsman Fazil Rashid scored sedate 14 off 40 balls, hitting 1 six and 1 four.
For Haryana, leg-spinner Rahul Tewatia was the wrecker-in-chief, who took 7 wickets by conceding 98 runs in his 22 overs, while Harshal Patel, Ajit Chahal and Jayant Yadav took 1 wicket each.
The Jammu and Kashmir team which is all set to qualify for the knockout stage in this prestigious tournament, is being accompanied by the supporting staff including Milap Mewada, Aftab, Bilal Shamas, Dr Ajaz Chilloo, Amit Bargotra, Pritesh, Javed Ahmed, Farhat and Syed Mujtaba.
