POONCH, May 24: Team effort helped District Jammu to enter the final of the ongoing Divisional Level Inter-District Under-16 Cricket Tournament, being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at Degree College Ground, here.
In the semifinals, Jammu boys held their nerves in the crunch situation and scripted a thrilling win by 4 runs over Doda to seal berth in the finals.
Batting first, Jammu scored 116 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Jagandeep Janu and Sahil Mahotra scored 23 runs each. For Doda, Mehran and Ikhlaq took 2 wickets each.
In reply, Doda fell short of just 4 runs as they managed 112 runs in 20 overs. Hinan and Abran scored 31 and 17 runs respectively. Left-arm speedster Rohit scalped 2 wickets for Jammu, while Vivrant and Jagandeep claimed one wicket each.
Earlier, in the quarterfinal, Jammu got better of Udhampur by a narrow margin of 6 runs.
Batting first, Jammu scored 121 runs in 18.5 overs. Sanchit Dass was the top scorer with 22 runs while Yogesh Sikka contributed 14 runs to the total. Deepanshu, Vivrant and Jagandeep chipped in with 11 runs each. For Udhampur, Jasbir Singh and Daler Singh claimed 3 wickets each.
Udhampur, in reply managed to score 115 for 8 in 20 overs, thus lost the match by 6 runs. Gourav top scored with 26 runs, while Ajaz contributed 25 runs to the total. Pavit Singh Ishar bagged 2 wickets for Jammu, while Rohit and Yogesh Sikka claimed one wicket each.
Now, Jammu will lock horns with Poonch in the summit clash tomorrow.
The 3-day tournament is being held under the overall supervision of Mohd Ayaz Khan, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Rajouri.
