JAMMU, Feb 15: Keeping its policy of promoting heritage sites and lesser frequented beauty spots of Jammu, Tawi Trekkers J&K organized a day long trek of Devi Pindian for girls under the leadership of Sonam Sidharth.
The group of 114 participants including 102 girls was flagged off from Kala Kendra Jammu by co- chairman of Tawi Trekkers J&K, Zorawar Singh Jamwal. President of the Club Ram Khajuria and along with others office bearers also accompanied the trekkers.
The budding trekkers were pleasantly surprised when Everester Rajiv Sharma of Udhampur who climbed Everest about 27 years back in 1993 also joined them for the trek at Manthal along with his wife and daughter Himika, an international skier. The young trekkers were thrilled to learn so much about mountaineering and mountains during their interaction with the veteran mountaineer.
The trekkers started journey from Panthal, nearly seven kilometres from Katra. Before the start of the trek, Rajiv Sharma delivered a short lecture on the importance of mountains and the role they play in our life. He asked the participants to keep the mountains clean whenever they go for trekking.
The young students were enchanted by the beauty of the serene place and fully enjoyed the 10 km to and fro trek amidst the pines and along a stream of gushing transparent water.
