JAMMU, Oct 29: Nirmal Kumar, currently the most brilliant shining star of J&K, who scaled the Everest, the highest peak on the earth last year and Kanchenjunga , the third highest and Manaslu the 8th highest peak in the world this year was felicitated by Tawi Trekkers J&K at Press Club, Jammu, today.
Nirmal Kumar, the first person from J&K to scale three different peaks above 8000m, was profusely garlanded by a galaxy of members of the club including its Chairman Anil Goswami, former Home Secretary, Government of India; Advisor Prof. Lalit Magotra: Co- Chairman Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Secretary General Press Club, Jammu; President Ram Khajuria and General Secretary of the club, Shawetica Khajuria, Rahul Sharma, Chairman, Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Jammu and a host of members of Mountaineering Association of J&K. All the dignitaries congratulated Nirmal Kumar for his great achievements and wished him the best for his future endeavors.
Besides Nirmal Kumar, two other mountaineers namely Ambreen Fatima and Narmita Katoch who scaled Deo Tibba (6001m) in Himachal Pradesh last month, in an expedition organized by NCC were also felicitated.
Ram Khajuria cautioned the budding mountaineers present on the occasion against falling prey to the growing trend of scaling only the Everest by participating in commercial expeditions organized by Tours and travel companies.
Anil Goswami, Chairman, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, co- Chairman of the club and Secretary General, Press Club, Jammu and Professor Lalit Magotra, Advisor of the club also spoke on the occasion.
