JAMMU, June 8: Principal of Shangrilla Public School, Sarwal, Surestha Khajuria flagged off the second batch of the School for J&K Himalayan Trekking Programme, being organized by Tawi Trekkers J&K in Moungri area of Udhampur district.
It was an exclusively girls group comprising of 36 students and 3 teachers namely Ranjana Gandotra, Asha Sharma and Rashmi Rajdhan.
Aman Arora, a trained mountaineer of Tawi Trekkers J&K, accompanied the group as leader.
Meanwhile, the adventure activities at the camp headquartered at Youth Hostel Moungri are in full swing with budding trekkers in the age group of 10 to 14 years, enjoying trekking in the dense, calm and cool pine forest, rappelling and rock climbing in the nearby rocks and learning practical lessons in river crossing in the cold water ‘nala’ near the camp.
The trekkers are also enjoying their interactions with the local people and learning about the local culture and fauna and flora of the area.
Fresh International standard equipment, approved by UIAA, the apex body for mountaineering in the world, is being used for all the activities being conducted under the direct supervision of Anil Kumar, a senior member of Tawi Trekkers who is a trained mountaineer and a national sport climber.
The next batch of trekkers comprising of students of Oriental Academy Higher Secondary School, Jammu will leave for the trek on June 10, 2014.
