Sumit maintains lead, Meenal at 2nd spot

JAMMU, Feb 9: Showing superb concentration and skills, Sumit Grover maintained his lead by winning all the three rounds today, while Meenal Gupta pursued and maintained her second spot, winning two games and losing one, out of three games played in the ongoing Senior State ‘A’ Chess Championship, here.
The Championship is being organized by All J&K Chess Association, under the auspices of J&K State Sports Council.
Now, Sumit is at first place with 10.5 points, while Meenal is at second spot with 9 points. Rohit Bhardwaj is at third place with 8 points and Maxim Singh is at fourth place with 7.5 points.
Ashiq Ahmed Kolu, general secretary All J&K Chess Association supervised the matches today, while Ajit Singh is the chief arbiter of the tournament.
Final two rounds will be played tomorrow.
In the 11th round, Sumit Grover trounced Javaid, Arvindu got better of Shahid Mushtaq, Mohd Sharief trounced Maxim Singh, Rohit Bhardwaj outplayed Meenal Gupta, Faisal Farooq defeated Amir Yousaf Bhat, Soham Kamotra prevailed over Mohd Rafiq and Pranav held Najmus Sakib to draw.
