JAMMU, Feb 17: With an aim to strengthen relation with ‘awaam’, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) is going to organize a mega Football Tournament, under Civic Action Programme in Jammu and Kashmir from February 19, 2017.
“To further strengthen ties within people and find out hidden talent, a 10-day long football tournament is going to be organised by the SSB in Jammu and Srinagar regions,’’ R K Bhumla, DIG (Ops), Srinagar told mediapersons here today.
He was flanked by DIG SSB Jammu N S Negi and other senior officials.
The DIG said that SSB was deployed in the State of Jammu and Kashmir three years back, and apart from operational activities, the force was also time to time organising such events to channelise energy of the youth in the positive direction.
“Earlier Intra-district tournaments will be held and then Inter-District Championship will be organized following which finals will be hosted in Jammu,’’ he said and informed that the winner would be rewarded Rs 20,000 as cash prize money along with football kit.
The matches will be played on Round Robin and League Basis, he added.
Admitting that challenges were there for the force while performing duties in the Kashmir valley, SSB personnels said that they were facing them and countering the anti-social elements.
“We hope that sports and programmes like vocational training, educational tours would surely catch the youth young so they should not be misguided by inimical forces,’’ DIG Bhumla said.
