Sports Council restrains JKOA for deputing contingent for upcoming National Games

JAMMU, July 24: J&K Sports Council restrained J&K Olympic Association, headed by Professor Ashutosh Sharma to restrain from deputing contingent for upcoming National Games, by derecognising it in violation of guidelines published in March 2016.
The National Games is scheduled to be held in various cities of Gujarat from September 27 to October 8 for which various States/ Union Territories units of Indian Olympic Associations are being asked to depute contingents in various disciplines in the upcoming games.
In this regard, the Secretary J&K Sports Council issued a notice dated July 22 which read that the 36th National Games are scheduled to be held in multiple cities of Gujarat State from September 27 to October 8, 2022 and for this purpose, various States and Union Territories are required to field the contingent for participation in the National Games based on the standard criteria prescribed for the purpose.
In this context, it is informed that J&K Olympic Association (JKOA) stands de-recognized by the Government of J&K and J&K Sports Council on violation of guidelines in March 2016 and vests no authority to perform the public functions of organizing UT Games or selecting and deputing the J&K contingent for participation in National Games etc and also not to represent J&K in National Sports Federations and Indian Olympic Association events, meets etc on behalf of UT of J&K.
“A public notice had also been floated in the year 2016 wherein Sports Associations of J&K affiliated with respective National Sports Federations and recognized by J&K Sports Council have been asked to restrain not to make any correspondence with “illegitimate” body of Ashutosh Sharma with regard to affiliation or remittance of fee including Olympic Sports matters.
”It has been decided that J&K Contingent will be sponsored through respective recognized Sports Associations affiliates of National Sports Federations for participation in the 36th National Games under the banner of J&K Sports Council” the notice also read as.
All Sports Associations are, therefore, requested to conduct selection trials in qualifying disciplines as per the standard criteria prescribed for the purpose by Indian Olympic Association and submit a list of selected probable with name, parentage, address, Aadhar No and Bank account details so that coaching camp and screening can  be arranged well in time.  They will also submit the measurement of shoes and tracksuit of the Athletes and Officials that the same is procured through standard procedure, read an order.
