JAMMU, May 16: Sports and education are the two sides of the same coin. Sports and games are as important as education in the present era.
This was stated by Director Youth Services and Sports J&K, Subash Chander Chibber while speaking to a big number of athletes during the inaugural ceremony of District Level Inter Zonal Tournament in the disciplines of Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Tug of War, Chess and Carrom for under-14 and under-17 boys at Khel Gaon Nagrota, near here today.
The Director Sports advised the athletes to take active part in sports apart from focussing on studies as it could be their best career option.
Chibber further said that sports serves for delight, for ornament and for agility.
While declaring the tournament open, Chibber was accompanied by Joint Director Youth Services and Sports Jammu, Suram Chand Sharma and Sukhdev Raj Sharma, under whose supervision the event is being organised.
Over 1450 athletes drawn from all 14 Zones of district Jammu are taking part in this sporting extravaganza.
In Chess Under-14 boys, Miran Sahib Zone got the better of Marh Zone by (3-1) points, while Dansal Zone prevailed over Arnia Zone by (2-1) points.
In Tug of War U-14 boys, Gandhi Nagar Zone drubbed Arnia Zone by 2-0 points, while Satwari Zone beat Jourian Zone by 2-0 points.
