KATRA, Aug 29: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board organized Sports Quiz as part of celebration of the National Sports Day, here today.
In total, 10 teams comprising two students each from as many educational institutions of Katra and its surrounding areas participated.
Dr Mandeep K Bhandari, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), who was the chief guest on the occasion, gave away prizes to the best adjudged teams. These teams included Tarun Solan and Rhythm Sharma of Delhi Public School, Katra, first position; Mohammad Asif and Sovik Rajput from Amba Kids Home, Panthal, second and Pragati Sehgal and Shruti Dogra, Trikuta Public Higher Secondary School, Katra, third place.
Before prize distribution function, Dr Bhandari paid floral tributes to hockey wizard, late Major Dhyan Chand, in whose honour National Sports Day is celebrated every year on August 29.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bhandari congratulated the students who were adjudged best in the Quiz Contest and advised the students to focus on sports and extra-curricular activities, alongside academics for their balanced personality development. He observed that the students should improve their outlook and broaden mental horizons to keep themselves in best stead in this era of competition. He said sports and academics are two sides of the same coin.
Referring to the various sports events organized by the Sports Wing of the Shrine Board during the past three days as part of National Sports Day, the CEO advised Director Sports, Ashok Kumar to organize more sporting activities in the coming months for the benefit of the students at large.
Earlier, Ashok Kumar, Director Sports, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, in his welcome address, gave details of the sports competitions organized by the Shrine Board as part of the National Sports Day this year. He said sports serves for delight, for ornament and for agility.
Among those present on the occasion were Rajinder Singh, OSD of the Shrine Board, Rajan Gupta, Executive Engineer, prominent citizens, Principals, teachers and students of the participating schools.
