Sport Climbing Championship concludes

SRINAGAR, May 20: Sport Climbing Championship for the districts of Anantnag, Srinagar and Budgam was organized by Glacier Trekking and Mountaineering Club, Anantnag, under the aegis of Mountaineering Association of J&K, which concluded at TRC Sport Climbing Wall, Nowgam, here today.
In Anantnag District competition, about 90 climbers including 26 girls from various institutions participated in three categories of Sub Junior Boys and Girls and Junior boys. The competition was conducted on ‘Top rope’ under the overall supervision of Khurshid Ahmad, vice president of Mountaineering Association of J&K
Earlier the competition was inaugurated by Director Tourism, Kashmir, Talat Parveez in the presence of guests of honour Tariq Ahmad, Deputy Director Tourism, Shafiq Ahmad Chak, Regional Director, Settlement, Central Kashmir and Mahmood Ahmad Shah, Deputy Commissioner, Commercial Taxes Vigilance.
In the Srinagar and Budgam District, a total of 80 climbers participated. Though most of the climbers were participating in such a competition for the first time they displayed lot of courage and power to climb the wall.
In this competition, Mir. Mohd. Hanief and Aejaj Ahmad Ahangar were the Judges and Junaid Ahmad Beig was the Route Setter. The winners were honoured by Rouf Ahmad Trumboo and Mohd Yousaf Mandoo.
