Sport Climbers leave for Specialized Coaching

JAMMU, Jan 15: Two Sport Climbers of the Mountaineering Association of J&K namely Shivani Charak and Asma Gul left today for Delhi to undergo an 11 days Specialized Coaching cum practice under a national coach at the International standard climbing walls and Gym at Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi prior to their departure for Bengaluru from Delhi on January 26 to represent North Zone in the 24th National Sport Climbing Competition scheduled to be held at Kanteerva Stadium, Bengaluru from January 27 to 30.
Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee, New Delhi had selected 5 climbers of J&K in the North Zone Sport Climbing team but the other three selected climbers declined to participate in the national competition because of their final exams.
Whereas Shivani Charak will participate in the Women category Asma Gul is in the Girls category of the North Zone team. Both will compete for honours in all the three forms of climbing i.e Lead, Speed and Bouldering and are expected to win at least 4 medals.
It may be mentioned here that Shivani Charak is the reigning national champion in both Lead climbing and Bouldering and was the first runner up in Speed climbing in 2017.
Earlier, the two member State team was screened for the national competition by the officials of the J&K State Sports council including the Chief Sports Officer Haji Abdul Qayoom, Divisional Sports Officer Ravi Singh and Manager Ashok Singh.
Ram Khajuria, General Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K was also present on the occasion.
