SPMR College smashes PG Arts, lifts Hockey title; GCW Gandhi Nagar clinches Yoga trophy

*GDC Rajouri, GDC RS Pura enter quarterfinals in Cricket

JAMMU, Oct 25: Inter-Collegiate Tournaments in the disciplines of Hockey, Yoga and Cricket, being organized by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, were played here today.
In Inter-Collegiate Hockey Tournament for men, Government SPMR College of Commerce Jammu smashed PG Arts, Jammu University by 5-1 and clinched the title trophy.
Rajinder Singh, Randeep Singh and Pushpinder Singh netted the goals for SPMR College side in the 13th, 32nd and 48th minutes respectively whereas Balmeet Singh scored two goals for the winning team in the 15th and 50th minutes.
For PG Arts side, Rahul Bansh was the lone goal scorer.
Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, Jammu University awarded winning trophy to Government SPMR College of Commerce team in the presence of Prof Sanjay Singh, Ajaz Malik, HS Chib, Dr Brij Baloria, Ranjveet Singh, Charanjeet Singh, Ravish Vaid, Gagan Kumar, Vikas Karlopia, PD Singh and Jai Bharat.
In Inter-Collegiate Yoga Tournament for women, GCW Gandhi Nagar team won the title trophy by 755 points, whereas PG team of Jammu University stood second and GCW Parade team clinched third position.
The players of GCW Gandhi Nagar team were Nisha Kumari, Roshni Devi, Shikhi Sambyal, Nageena Choudhary, Ruby Sharma and Nilza Angmo, whereas the players of PG team of Jammu University were Anu Radha, Minakshi Sharma, Suneha Sharma, Ritu Sharma and Anu Sharma. GCW Parade team comprised of players namely Kanchan Devi, Bhawni Seth, Auradha, Rabia Rana, Diksha Sharma and Shashi Sharma.
Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu awarded the winners with trophy and medals in the presence of Sumnesh Sharma, Suman Lata, Ravika Arora, Ramesh Magotra and Monika Megwan.
The matches were officiated by Harsimran Singh, Sanjeev Kumar, Mukesh Sharma, Harinderpal Singh and PD Singh.
In Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament for men, GDC Rajouri and GDC RS Pura crushed rivals in their respective matches and entered quarterfinals.
In the first match, GDC Rajouri registered 6 wickets win over PG Arts, JU and entered quarterfinals.
Batting first, PG Arts scored 92 runs by losing 9 wickets in 20 overs. Nikilesh was the top scorer with 31 runs, while Tahir and Shivam made 24 and 8 runs respectively.
For GDC Rajouri side, Sahil, Sajid and Iftiaz scalped 2 wickets each, while Aditya and Amir clinched one wicket each.
In reply, GDC chased the target in 17 overs for the loss of 4 wickets, Shafaqat made 29 runs, while Anwar and Vikas scored 19 runs each.
For PG Arts side, Shiv Dutt took 2 wickets, while Shivam scalped one wicket.
In the second match, GDC RS Pura crushed MBS College by 7 wickets and sailed into quarterfinals.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, MBS College made 127 runs by losing 6 wickets in 20 overs. Parteek was the top scorer with 46 runs, while Gourav and Varunvir scored 39 and 10 runs respectively.
For GDC RS Pura side, Snehal was the pick of the bowler with 3 wickets, while Gurjeet Singh and Manjot took one wicket apiece.
In the second inning, GDC RS Pura chased the target by losing 3 wickets in 17.2 overs. Snehal Sharma played a splendid inning of 48 runs, while Prince and Gurjeet Singh chipped in 23 and 10 runs respectively.
From MBS College side, Akash and Jatinderpal took one wicket each.
The matches were officiated by Saleem-ur-Rehman, Sadiq Hussain, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Raman Kumar and Vijay Kumar as umpires, while Vinod acted as a scorer.
The tournaments were being organized under the supervision of Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
