Chennai, Jan 1: Davis Cupper Somdevdev Varman has sent out aggressive signals to All India Tennis Association (AITA) on two counts: his emphatic win in the first round in the singles draw of the Chennai Open ATP Tour new year opener and his e-mail to AITA to set things right for Indian players in this competition. ‘Yes, win(against higher ranked Czech Jan Hajek was satisfying’, he said asked how it felt coming back to the circuit after the surgery to treat his shoulder injury. ‘Physically it was very good. I am happy with the result’, he said, adding ‘I have grown a lot as a preron since the surgery.’.
Somdev agreed when asked if his emphatic win was a strong message to the selectors.’Yeh, you can put it that way’, he pointed.
About his e-mail to AITA, Somdev said he did not mean to pass any alarming comment on anyone. ‘I thought a change was better for us especially the younger lot like Vishnu (Vardhan) and Sanam Singh. They have a lot of talent. They are the future’, he said.
He said the players did not have a physio. ‘Honestly I want to work together to make this event(Chennai Open) first class. That really was my plea’, Somdev explained.
