DC Jammu hails PCJ initiative

JAMMU, May 7: Ashok Sodhi Martyr Memorial Cricket Tournament organized by the Press Club of Jammu began tonight at MA Stadium with inaugural match between Deputy Commissioner Jammu-XI and Press Club-XI.
Avny Lavasa, DC Jammu captained the DC-XI while Press Club-XI was headed by Naveen Koul.
Press Club of Jammu president Sanjeev Pargal felicitated the DC Jammu by presenting her a memento during inaugural match. Club Finance Secretary Channi Anand, Management Committee Member Dinesh Mahajan and other Management Committee members and senior journalists including photographers associated with Ashok Sodhi were present on the occasion.
Speaking, Avny Lavasa lauded the initiative taken by the Press Club of Jammu for organizing the tournament saying sports connect all and leads to good interaction and friendliness.
“It’s a good initiatives of the Press Club Jammu,” she said, adding the women should come forward and take part in sports.
Press Club president Sanjeev Pargal said the cricket tournament is fitting tribute to Ashok Sodhi, then chief photographer of Daily Excelsior, who attained martyrdom while covering encounter at Samba on May 11, 2008.
Pargal announced that final match of the tournament will be played on May 11.
Playing first, Press Club-XI scored 200 runs in 20 overs.
The DC-XI was batting when the reports last came in.
Pargal also interacted with both the teams.
