GULMARG, Jan 5: Despite meagre snowfall in Gulmarg, the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM) concluded its first Snow Skiing Course at Gulmarg today.
In an impressive ceremony, Dr RK Bhatnagar, Additional Director General (ADG) of Tourism, Govt of India, gave away the prizes to the winners of different events.
70 players from different parts of the country participated in the Course. Out of which, around 30 players were sponsored by Winter Games Association of Punjab.
IISM, Gulmarg provided the best training and administration to the students in a centrally heated building of the Institute.
In his welcome address, JS Dhillon, Principal of the Institute said that the Institute has become so popular that there is a long waiting list of the students who want to enroll for the different courses of the Institute.
Mr Bhatnagar in his address said that IISM Gulmarg is playing a vital role to promote adventure tourism in the country, adding that the Ministry of Tourism is sensitive to the needs of the Institute and will help them to upgrade their Chairlifts and Ski lifts in the near future. He interacted with staff and students and took their feedback.
The Institute will play a vital role in the organization of the National Ski Championship at Gulmarg to be held in the month of February.
