VIJAYPUR, Sept 27: Former Minister and Senior State Vice President National Conference, Surjeet Singh Slathia today expressed happiness over wrestling emerging as a popular sport, especially in rural areas, saying the sport has tremendous potential to retrieve its pristine glory, given the enthusiasm among young wrestlers.
Speaking at a mega Peer Chatala Peer Baba Wrestling Championship at SIDCO Stadium Industrial Area Bari Brahmana, here this evening, the former minister said that growing interest among youth in rural oriented sports like wrestling, Kabbadi, Kho-Kho etc is an encouraging trend that will certainly go a log way in their overall personality development.
Mr Slathia hoped that presence of eminent wrestlers in the competition will motivate youngsters towards the game and help them sharpen their skills. He exhorted youth to participate in sports in a big way along side academics.
The Sr State Vice President said that sports offer vistas of opportunities in career development and the youth cannot afford to remain in the shell of academics alone; they have to be versatile in every field of activity.
Mr Slathia lauded the participants and organizers for the event, saying the enthusiasm among sports lovers is equally reassuring and reflective of the fact that the game still holds big promise for talented youth. He appreciated the wrestlers for putting their best in the competition.
Besides large number of people, the event was witnessed by Vice President National Conference Vijay Singh, Block President Bari Brahmana Bhagwan Singh, EX Chairman Municipal Committee Bari Brahmana Raman Gupta, Former Srpanches Sadiq Hussain, Gulab Hussain and Lambadar Abdul Rashid.
