Sittu Club, Ajit Club script victories, register berths in semis

JAMMU, Jan 16: Sittu Club got walkover against Zorawar Club, Satwari and Ajit Hockey Club, Gole Gujral crushed Young Star Hockey Club, Simbal Camp and registered berths in the semis of the ongoing 2nd Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sub-Junior Hockey Tournament, being organized by Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Foundation under the aegis of Hockey J&K at KK Hakku Stadium, here today.
In the first match, Sittu Club got walkover against Zorawar Club, Satwari as the latter failed to report to the venue. After getting walkover, Sittu Club entered into the semis of the tournament.
In the second match of the day, Ajit Hockey Club, Gole Gujral defeated Young Star Hockey Club, Simbal Camp by 4-0 goals and qualified for the semifinal round of the tournament.
In the first half, players of both the teams started playing mind games.
However, Mandeep Singh of Ajit Hockey Club after finding a loop-hole netted the goal in the second minute of the first half and raised the lead on the opponent Young Star Hockey Club.
The players of Young Star Hockey Club tried their level best to equalize the scoreboard, but failed and the first half ended with 1-0 lead over them.
In the second half, Prabhjot Singh of Ajit Hockey Club scored the goal in the 32nd minute and brought the opponent team under pressure of 2-0 goals.
In the 40th minute, enthusiastic Gurdip Singh with his professional skills netted the goal and raised the scoreboard to 3-0 goals.
The players of Young Star Hockey Club raided the goal side of Ajit Hockey Club several times, but their forwards could not convert even a single raid into goal.
Pawandeep Singh of Ajit Hockey Club smashed a goal in the 42nd minute of the game, which served a jolt to the opponent Young Star Hockey Club.
In the remaining 18 minutes of the game, the players of Young Star Hockey Club sweated well and strived hard also to equalize the goal, but the final whistle by the umpire shattered their dreams and the match was won by Ajit Hockey Club by straight four goals to zero.
The matches were witnessed by Jagjit Singh, Dalbir Mehta, Joginder Singh, Charanjit singh, Jaspreet Singh, Ravinder Singh and GS Bakshi.
Earlier, Rajinder Singh Kuku, Treasurer, Hockey India, interacted with the players and wished them luck. He said that with these kinds of tournaments, the budding players of Hockey will get a chance to exhibit their talent.
Among others present were Avtar Singh, Hardev Singh, Charanjit Singh, Tirlok Singh, Davinder Bakshi and other sports lovers.
In tomorrows fixture, the first semis will be played between Guru Nanak Hockey Club and Sittu Hockey Club, whereas in the second semis, Ajit Club will take on MBS Hockey Club.
The final of the tournament will be played on January 19 at same venue. Dr Abdul Kabir Dar, Director General, Indian Systems of Medicine, J&K and Mission Director, AYUSH, Government of India will be the chief guest.
