JAMMU, May 23: Singh Cricket Club lifted the Jammu Premier League (JPL) trophy by defeating Gharota Warriors in the final match played at Akhnoor, here today.
The winner Singh Cricket Club has been titled as ‘Joshile Jammu’ from Jammu district for its participation in the league round matches to be played from June 2.
The league round will be played between the teams that qualified the pre-qualifier rounds from each district.
Winning the toss, Gharota Warriors batted first and set a target of 129 runs for the loss of seven wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Shoubnam scored 42 runs in 34 balls, while Sunil Kumar made 26 runs and Pant contributed valuable 23 runs. For Singh Cricket Club, Daksh, Sumit Pandit and Abhinandan shared two wickets each and Manav got one wicket.
In reply, Singh Cricket Club chased the target for the loss of five wickets in 18.4 overs. Rohit Singh scored 50 runs, while Manav made 25 runs and Abhinandan contributed 24 runs.
Abhinandan was awarded man of the match for his all round performance and was presented a cash prize of Rs 2000. The winning team was awarded with Rs 15,000 cash prize and a cricket kit worth Rs 35,000 while Rs 5000 was rewarded to the runner up team.
The tournament is an initiative of Army’s White Knight Corps under Op Sadhbawana at Country Cricket Stadium, Ghrota in collaboration with Vikrant Sharma (Director CCS) and Sarthak Khoda (Prominent Sports promoter of Jammu and Kashmir and Social Activist).
Colonel RDS Billawaria, Deputy Commander of Armoured Brigade was the chief guest on the occasion while prominent dignitaries, Dr Maansi Sharma, Vivek Sharma, Ranjit Singh and Panchayat members were also invited as special guests.
