*Jung distributes prizes; Sumit bags MoM

JAMMU, Mar 11: Outplaying Lions Cricket Club Bohri by a big margin of 87 runs in the summit clash, Singh Cricket Club Akhnoor lifted the title trophy of the Salute & Tribute to Sunjuwan Martyrs Jammu District Rural Cricket Tournament, organized by Jammu District Cricket Alliance, an affiliate Unit of the Parade Sports Association (PSA) at Parade Ground, here.
Jung Bahadur Singh Jamwal, former Judge and Executive Member Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association was the chief guest on the occasion, while Sham Swaroop Kalsotra, another executive member of JKCA was the guest of honour.
Both the dignitaries besides felicitating winners and runners-up teams and players also honoured the members of Parade Sports Association for their achievements during the year 2017-18. Those who were honoured included Vikrant Sharma, Akshay Khajuria, Desh Rattan Dubey, Pradeep Bali, Sameer Khajuria, Karan Nayyar and Harsh Nayyar.
During valedictory function, the dignitaries were accompanied by Dr Anil Kumar Mahajan, General Secretary PSA; Ranjeet Bali, Vice President PSA, Sanjay Sharma, Vice President PSA and Kavaljeet Singh, former Duleep and Ranji Trophy cricketer.
Senior journalists Rajesh Dhar and Naveen Koul were also honoured by the dignitaries on the occasion.
Earlier, put into bat, Singh Cricket Club scored a mammoth total of 215 runs in the stipulated 25 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process. Sumit Rajput played a brilliant innings of 87 runs, studded with 6 fours and 5 sixes, while Sunil Sharma contributed valuable 48 runs. Gagan Singh and Rahul Sharma also contributed 24 and 20 runs to the total. For Lions Cricket Club, Ashwani and Vinod took 2 wickets each, while Ritik and Abhinav claimed 1 wicket each.
In reply, Lions Cricket Club bundled out for paltry 128 runs, thus lost the match by a big margin of 87 runs. Rohan Koul top scored with 40 runs, while Shubham Bhat and Sarthak Peshin contributed 31 and 18 runs to the total respectively. For Singh Club, Happy took 3 wickets, while Rahul and skipper Sham Singh Langeh claimed 2 wickets each. Sumit Rajput was declared as the man of the match for his superb 87 runs. He was also adjudged as the man of the series for hitting 3 consecutive fifties in the tournament.
The match was officiated by Kapil Dev Mahajan and Rajesh Jaitley as umpires, while the Tournament was held under the overall supervision of Vijay Sabarwal, President Parade Sports Association.
The proceedings of the valedictory function were conducted by anchor Rajesh Dhar.
