JAMMU, July 2: Simula XI registered emphatic wins in opening match of the Monsoon Tri-Series Cricket League , which got underway at Science College Ground, here today.
The tournament in which 3 teams are participating is being organized jointly by Jammu and Kashmir Police Department and Simula Club, under the supervision of Ashkoor Wani DIG Jammu while as Rajesh Gill, Chief Prosecuting Officer and former Ranji Player is the Organizing Secretary of the tournament.
Ashkoor Wani, DIG Jammu in presence of Staff Officer Rajnish Pran, Hilal Rather MD Simula, Ashesh Sharma Mentor Shastri Club, Sandeep SDPO,RP Singh, Asif Gill, David Mattoo and SI Sandeep Charak inaugurated the tournament.
While speaking on the occasion, DIG Jammu said that apart from promoting sporting activities the other main objective is also to promote health awareness. He added that J&K Police is committed to promote sports activities in order to create sports environment in state so that the youths may not derail from the mainstream. He also appealed to the general public to witness this tri series and encourage the participating cricketers.
Earlier, Rajesh Gill Organizing Secretary of the tournament presented the welcome address and also highlighted the purpose and objective of the tournament, whereas RP Singh conducting the proceedings of the inaugural function of the league. .
In the opening match, Simula Cricket XI defeated Shastri Cricket XI by 17 runs.
Batting first, Simula XI scored 115 runs in stipulated 29.2 overs, with Haedeep Singh (21), Hilal Rather (18) and Arvind (17) being the main scorers. Amit Sharma and Arvind took 3 wickets each for Shastri XI, while Avesh ,Vishal Singh and Vishal Rana captured 1 wicket each.
Shastri XI, in reply could not achieve the target and were all out for 98 runs in 29.4 overs thus lost the match by 17 runs. Arvind was the top scorer with 20 runs, while Vishal contributed with 17 runs. Mohit took 3 wickets for Simula XI, while Hardeep Singh and Vikram took 2 wickets each. Hardeep Singh was adjudged as man of the match.
The Organizing Committee members include Parshotam Sharma Deputy Director Prosecution RPHQ Jammu, Hilal Rather MD Simula, Ashash Sharma,R P Singh, Rajesh Dhar, Asif Gill, David Mattoo and Suhail.
