JAMMU, Mar 14: Samar Cricket Club, Rainawari Cricket Club (RCC) Srinagar, Jammu Gymkhana and Simula XI registered emphatic wins on the opening dayof the 3rd Police Martyrs Cricket Tournament which got underway at MA Stadium and Mandal Cricket Grounds, here today.
The Tournament in which 24 teams from Jammu Province are participating is being organized jointly by Zonal Police Headquarters, Jammu.
Earlier, Rajesh Kumar, IGP Jammu declared the Tournament open in an impressive and well attended function in presence of DIG Jammu Shakeel Beigh; Atul Goel SSP Jammu; Ashok Kumar SP; JS Johar SP PCR; Randhir Singh SP Headquarter; Jugal Kishore SP North and Rahul Malik SP South.
While speaking on the occasion, IGP Jammu lauded the efforts of the organizing team for conducting this mega event in which 24 premier teams from the Jammu province are participating.
He said that organizing sports events in the memory of Police Martyrs with the objective to pay homage to the Martyrs’ who sacrificed their lives for the nation smacks a blissful feeling, adding that the Tournament also provides a platform for the youth to hone their talent and skill.
IGP further said that the Police Martyrs’ Tournament will be a regular feature. Earlier, Ashok Sharma, SP presented welcome address and also gave brief report of the Tournament.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were ASP Shri Ram Dinkar, SDPO; Kulbir Honda, SDPO; Rajinder Singh DySP DAR; Harjeet Singh, SDPO; Mohd Rafiq SDPO; Asif Gill, Shashi Paul.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Rajesh Dhar, convener, technical committee.
Earlier, in the first match Samar Club defeated Eleven Star by 5 wickets. Batting first, Eleven star XI scored 108 runs in the stipulated 20 overs for loss of 7 wickets, with Parveen (37 in 41 balls), Sachin (25 in 25 balls). Narinder Singh took 2 wickets while Udesh, Tinku and Varun shared 1wicket each for Samar Club.
Samar Club, in reply achieved the target in 12.5 overs by losing 5 wickets and won the match by 5 wickets. Monu was the top scorer with 28 runs, while Narinder and Karan scored 24 and 21 runs respectively. Sunil took 2 wickets, while Sahil, Irshad and Ajay shared one wicket apiece. Narinder of Samar Club was declared man of the match for his all-round performance.
In the second match, Rainawari Cricket Club (RCC) Srinagar scripted a comfortable win against Rehari Cricket Club, Jammu.
Batting first, Rehari Club made a modest total of 113 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 8 wickets. Parveen Singh top scored with 52 runs off 45 balls, while Sourav and Chetan contributed 15 and 11 runs respectively. For RCC Srinagar, Satish Kumar took 3 wickets, while Kuldeep Kumar bagged 2. Musa and Monu claimed one wicket each.
In reply, RCC Srinagar chased the target in 17.5 overs by losing 6 wickets. Musa (34* in 34 balls), Satish (28* in 19 balls) and Ashu (22) were the main scorers. Sahil Bhalwal and Sourav took 2 wickets each, while Noushad took one wicket. Satish was adjudged man of the match for his outstanding display.
In another match, Simula XI thrashed Satwari Cantt by 63 runs in an easy contest.
Batting first, Simula XI scored 163 runs in 20 overs with Atul top scoring with 62 runs, while Shashi and Prince contributed 39 and 30 runs to the total respectively. Dheeraj took 3 wickets, while Raj Kumar, Kaka and Vijay claimed one wicket each for Satwari Cantt.
Satwari Cantt bundled out for 100 runs in the allotted 20 overs by losing 6 wicket, thus losing the match by 63 runs. Shubam was the top scorer with 22 runs, while Sagar contributed 20 runs. Sameer Khajuria took 3 wickets for Simula, while Hilal Rather and Prince took 2 wickets each. Atul was adjudged man of the match for his superb knock of 62 runs.
In another match, Jammu Gymkhana prevailed over Young star by a narrow margin of 11 runs in a close contest. Jammu Gymkhana scored 107 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Aman top scored with 34 runs, while Jagan Singh contributed 21 runs to the total. Manu took 3 wickets for Young Star Club, While Vicky took 2 wickets.
Young star, in reply collapsed at 96 runs in 19.4 overs. Raju was the top scorer with 31 runs, while Surinder scored 10 runs to the total. Tribuvan and Sahil took 3 wickets each, while Sidharth and Akash bagged 2 wickets each. Tribuvan was adjudged man of the match.
The matches were officiated by Saleem-ur-Rehman, Sadiq Hussain, Sandeep Manchanda, Naresh Kumar, Shamsher Singh, Suhail and Farooq Ahmad.
