UDHAMPUR, Oct 1: General Officer Commanding Fire and Fury Corps flagged off Siachen Trek Expedition from Leh today.
The expedition consists of 23 eminent volunteers including three female members, who will trek across the treacherous terrain of Siachen Glacier covering a distance of 120 kms over 8 days up to an altitude of approx 16000 feet.
The excited members of the trek had started congregating at Leh since last few days, where they were equipped with adequate training and equipment to undertake this trek. The entire trek will be supervised by Army under expert mountaineers to ensure safety.
A large gathering of civilian and military dignitaries had gathered to see off the expedition. “While inculcating the spirit of adventure in the members of the trek, the expedition will be landmark step towards better civil-military relations. It will provide a wonderful platform for mutual interaction, as well expose the participants to the challenges faced by the Army”, GOC Fire and Fury Corps said while flagging off the trekkers.
After completion of the expedition, the members of the trek will return to Leh for their onward journey to their respective places.
