JAMMU, Jan 8: Young and promising 17-year old, Shubdeep Sharma of Kathua district emerged as new Chess champion in the State Chess Championship-2018, which concluded at Nek Hotel, below Gummat, here today.
He emerged winner after fighting with top players of J&K State.
He surprised all the senior players and previous champions with his stunning performances. 5 players tied at same 5 points after total six rounds and he was declared as the winner on tie break rule Buchloz System as first tie break was of head to head, which was not applicable in this case.
The event was organized by All J&K Chess Association and sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
Deeba Gulzar won the gold medal in Girls Under-7 category while Laksh Chaudhary won in boys category.
In Under-9 girls, Radhika Palgotra won the Gold medal while in boys, Saksham Sabarwal won the gold.
In girls Under-11 category Vridhi won the Gold while in boys Master Saransh won the Gold.
In Girls Under-13 category, Amrita Gupta won the Gold while in boys Ayush Gupta clinched the Gold medal.
In Girls Under-15 category, Zabia Reyaz won the gold while in boys Sanyam gupta won the Gold Medal.
In Girls Under-17 Avantika Gupta won the gold while in boys Chetan Raina won the Gold. In Under-19 Girls, Ojaswani mengi won the Gold while in Boys Ashutosh Jamwal won thegold.InSenior Women Versha Rani won the Gold while Bishmah Afshan was runners-up.
Today’s matches were conducted by Vivek Bharti Gupta and AR Wani who was the chief arbiter of this event.
Raj kumar was the chief organizer of this event.
Atul kumar Gupta President, All J&K Chess Association along with Arshid Ahmad Kolu Secretary and other members of the Association distributed the prizes among the winners.
While speaking on the occasion, Atul Kumar Gupta appreciated the enthusiasm of the young players and hoped that J&K players will shine in the National and International level. Prominent among others present on the valedictory function were AR Wani, Sr Vice President AJKCA; Vice Presidents Baldev Raj and Taranvir Singh; Joint Secretaries Ashiq Ahmad, Vikas Nanda, Faisal Farooq and Raj Kumar; and Treasurer Khalid Amin.
