JAMMU, Jan 1: Opening batsman Shubam Khajuria slammed third century of the season and speedster Rohit Sharma captured 5 important wickets as J&K gained first innings lead and the match of Cooch Behar Under-19 Cricket Tournament between Jammu and Kashmir and Railways ended in a draw, today.
J&K had already qualified for the knock-out stage and their last 8 campaign will begin on January 5, 2013.
Earlier, scoring a decent total of 402 runs in the first innings, with Hisham Saleem (84*), Ahmed Banday (71) Sidharth Magotra (66) and Paras Sharma (44) being the main contributors, J&K dismissed Railways for a total of 382 runs in 143.1 overs, with Rohit Sharma being the wrecker-in-chief, scalping 5 important wickets by conceding 89 runs in 24.1 overs, while Paras Sharma took 3 and Umar Nazir 2, thus helping J&K to gain a vital first innings lead.
In the second essay, J&K were 254/6 in 70 overs on stumps on the last day. Shubam Khajuria scored a brilliant century (107) runs with the help of 10 boundaries and 2 sixes, while Ahmed Banday scored 51 and Paras Sharma valuable 39 runs. For Railways, AS Yadav bagged 3 wickets, while Umakant Saraswat claimed 2 and DV Singh one.
This team which has qualified for the knock-out stage has been selected by former Ranji trophy cricketer Pardeep Bali, Akshay Khajuria along with other selectors, while it is being accompanied by Manzoor Dar, Niaz Ahmed, Prem and Rahul Razdan.
