Shreya becomes J&K’s 1st woman to win medal in Fencing Int’l

Jammu, July 27: Continuing her stupendous performance in national and international events, Shreya Gupta, ace fencer of J&K has brought laurels to the state by winning bronze medal in the Sabre event of the ongoing Common-wealth Cadet and Junior Fencing Championship at Newcastle, England being held from July 23 to 30, 2018.
By winning medal at the international level, Shreya has added another feather to her cap.
Shreya gave a thrilling display of her performance in all the matches, thereby helping team India in winning a medal. After securing number 1 ranking in selection trials held at WTC-SAI, Aurangabad in Maharashtra, Shreya attended a two month training camp at SAI-Aurangabad before leaving for the Common-wealth Championship.
It is pertinent to mention here that Shreya recently brought laurels to the state by representing India in Asian Cadet Championship held at Dubai from February 23 to February 26, 2018. For her excellent performance in National Fencing Championship in Gwalior in October 2017, she was declared as the Best National Fencer of the Championship.
She attributes her success to J&K State Amatuer Fencing Association, Senior Coach Shotu Lal Sharma, International Coach Rachna Jamwal and International Player and Referee, Rashid Ahmed Choudhary.
