Sher-e-Punjab, JK Forest to clash in finals today

JAMMU, Mar 9: After outplaying their respective teams in the semis today, Sher-e-Punjab and JK Forest will now clash in the finals of the ongoing 3rd Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup Football Tournament being organized by All J&K Indira Gandhi People’s Association in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) and J&K Sports Council at Government Gandhi Memorial (GGM) Science College football ground tomorrow.
Earlier, in the first semifinal match, Sher-e-Punjab thrashed PDC (B) by a solitary goal and registered the name in the finals of the tournament.
The players of both the team started playing the game passionately and there was no goal during the first half.
In the second half, PDC (B) and Sher-e-Punjab players maintained the momentum, but Gurlal Singh of latter’s team netted the goal and put a lead of one goal over opponent team in the 52nd minute.
After 52nd minute, the players of PDC (B) tried to equalize and win the match, but failed in front of the enthusiastic Sher-e-Kashmir players, who gave no room to them and thus clinched the match by a single goal and advanced to the finals.
During the match, the yellow cards were shown to Abid and Nainjot of PDC (B) in the 44th and 87th minute and to Jasvinder Singh in the 66th minutes.
In the second semis, J&K Forest registered 4-1 goals victory over Young Rovers and will now clash with the first semis winning team Sher-e-Punjab in the finals tomorrow.
During the match, Taufeeq of J&K Forest netted the goal in the 9th minute of the first half, which the opponent team failed to equalize till last minute and the first half ended with 1-0 goal.
In the second half, Rizwan of J&K Forest scored the goal in the 56th minute and the pressure was raised on the Young Rovers team, when Mansoor of J&K Forest netted the third goal in the 63rd minute.
With the brilliant footwork, Shahid netted the fourth goal in the 75th minute and raised the pressure and lead on its opponent team by four goals to zero (4-0).
After the foul play by the J&K Forest player in the 76th minute, Young Rovers got an opportunity to score a goal.
The goalkeeper of J&K Forest failed to read the strategy of the Young Rovers player Rahul Kumar, who converted the penalty kick into goal.
After the goal by Rahul Kumar, the morale of his team-mates to win the match also raised. But their dreams shattered, when they get no passage to score any goal, till end of the second half and the match ended with 4-1 goals.
The matches were officiated by Hilal Ahmed, Shafi Ahmed, Vijay Kumar, Gagan Kumar, Sohan Kumar, Koushal Sharma, Kushey Kumar and Rohit Kumar Gupta.
The semifinal matches were witnessed by Zameel Thakur, president, Jammu Kashmir Football Association (JKFA), Fiaz Ahmed, district president, JKFA, Srinagar, Romesh Kumar, district member, JKFA, Yousuf Don, Selector, JKFA, David Mashi, citizens and sports lovers.
The tournament is being organized by Narinder Gupta, President, All J&K Indira Gandhi People’s Association.
